Mission Statement and Plans for CREATE - established in 1998

Mission/Purpose

CREATE exists to empower young people living in rural areas to develop healthy lifestyles and to promote opportunities for them to grow into responsible citizens and attain quality life.

Vision

Communities with young people who have high morals and practice healthy lifestyles, are knowledgeable of their rights and responsibilities, and are capable of using this knowledge for building families and communities that are sociable and prosperous.

Immediate Goal

 A nationally reputable resource centre established in Kumi that is perceived by the local community as a provider of information and other key resources for development of young people and the entire community.

What Is Our Approach

• Entertain-and-educate approach for healthy physical and emotional development.
• Reaching young people through peer educators
• Working in partnership with other co-actors, parents,agencies and government institutions. Development of young people is a shared responsibility.
• Combining operational research, practical experience, and participation of the target population in articulating the best health and development services/activities at all stages of program development.

Immediate Plans

I    To Promote and Consolidate the Resource Centre

• To continue collecting textbooks and magazines especially for primary and secondary school education, human rights/civic education and leisure, and educative and recreational videos.
• To develop a modern out-door games facility.
• Intensify training of peer educators and co-actors.

Organise interactive meetings at the centre and invite a cross-section of the community to discuss topical issues such as adolescent reproductive health, human rights, democratisation in Uganda, privatisation, etc.

II    Promote and Consolidate Outreach Programme

• Establish a book lending section
• Strengthen community adolescent and reproductive health education outreach for out-of-school young people and parents.
• Facilitate interaction between in-school and out-of-school young people through games and sports and voluntary activities.
• Strengthen collaboration with local governments and civil society organisations.
