How You Can Help
If you would like to support the work ongoing with the projects described under Current Projects you could do so in a number of different ways. Needless to say, we welcome (and need) donations, sponsorship and funds raised from events and our gift catalogue. However, we also welcome support through personal involvement, whether from a wish to know more or to form links, or on a practical level, no matter how small. For details of current fundraising projects click here.

Kumi Orphans Project
The main way in which we raise funds for this worthwhile project is through the Dolen Ffermio gift catalogues, mainly at Christmas but also throughout the year. Miriam and Emmanuel Maraka, who founded and run the Orphan Project, and everyone in Dolen Ffermio are overjoyed at the response of the people from this area and the pupils in local schools. In just over Three years we have raised £30,000, including £8,000 this Christmas just gone. This is even more amazing and heartening in view of the current economic downturn.
£3 Classrooms are bare, often with over 100 pupils, who all have to provide their own resources. £3 will buy pens and paper for a whole year, together with a maths set, and will enable an orphan to stay in school.
£5 purchases 3 Orange Tree Seedlings. Orange tree seedlings will begin producing fruit within 3 years. Oranges are a good source of vitamin C for the orphans and will help to give them an income of their own to pay for school fees and other essentials.
£5 for a football or netball. Children need to play and a good ball will help to keep them out of harm's way. Youngsters make their own balls from a balloon, covered in plastic and tied with string - but they don't last long and they would love to have proper ones.
£10 purchases 5 laying hens. The hens will provide eggs and meat for the orphans to eat and will be a rapid source of income from the sale of any surplus.
£15 purchases a Female Goat. Local female goats will start a small goat herd to provide an orphan with security as they grow up. When each orphan’s goat has kidded twice, they will pass on a female kid to another orphan, so this gift benefits more and more orphans as time goes on.
£35 purchases a Male Goat. Male goats of a larger, improved Ugandan breed, Mubende Elite, shared for breeding within the project will increase the size of goat kids and thereby increase their value to the orphans.
£40 purchases training for an older orphan as youth worker. Each youth worker is trained to advise, help and supervise the younger orphans on the care of goats, chickens and trees. The training also relates to responsible, healthy living, including HIV/AIDS prevention. Training is a crucial part of the Project and is highly prized by the volunteer youth workers.
£40 purchases a bicycle for a volunteer youth worker to enable them to get round all the villages that they work in. They can also use them as a transport service to earn a little income. Alternatively, you can purchase a half share of a bike for £20.
